Monday night update

Last night was one of the hardest nights we have had so far (sorry Missa...but thank you for being here with us). YouYou cried so much, and when she wasn't crying the nurses were messing with her/doing their job and waking her up. There was also a LOT of crying this morning but then this afternoon we seemed to turn a corner!! Praise God!!! She ate some noodles and corn chips of all things, and she finally drank for the first time that day around 8:00 pm. Then right before she fell asleep guess what she did?????? She laughed and smiled at us (me and Aaron)!!! It felt like it did the first time I saw her sweet smile and heard her little laugh on January 12th!!!

Her mouth still looks horrible but it must have started feeling a little better. She was awake way more than she has been since surgery so I'm hoping she will sleep well tonight. Thank you to Carlton and Aimee for coming by today with your sweet little one. I think Lily really helped to distract YouYou, and I was encouraged by your presence.

We had a team of Dr.'s in to look at YouYou's mouth today and we should know a little more about what it might be tomorrow night when some test results come back.

She seems to have some blood in her urine (we just noticed it today), so hopefully we will hear something about that tomorrow as well.

They are letting her sleep without her oxygen tonight for the first time. So I will be anxious to see what her stat's are throughout the night.

Love to you all and Praises to the King!

  2. Oh I'm so glad things brightened up for everyone this afternoon! That Aimee..she just brings the sunshine wherever she goes! We are continuing to pray for You You...for good stats all through the night, complete healing of her mouth sores, and good test results on EVERYTHING! I love hearing that she smiled and laughed with you and Aaron!

  3. Erica....I've been thinking about you so much and praying for you. Every time we pray, Sammy prays for "Baby Clara," and he's so concerned about her. He missed y'all in SS too--and he gave me a report on Clara and why y'all weren't there! :-) Jacob's verse in SS was Mark 10:14...Jesus loves our babies!

  10. It did my heart good to see that sweet baby yesterday. She gets more beautiful every time I see her. Lily yells YOUYOU each time we read your updates. Does she know that we have "pre-arranged" this friendship between these two? I hope they love each other because they don't have a choice!!!

Continuing to pray for you all...we love you guys

  11. I am sorry you had a bad time. Sometimes all you can do is laugh or cry or whatever you need to do. My brother told me today that what doesn't kill you makes you stronger (we Grant and Reid are sick again). Just think how strong you are getting!!! We will keep praying. Love you.

  12. In response to Tatum's post above. We laughed and cried. We lauged at how persistant she was about pushing away from me or holding up her hand to say 'No' when she was tired of being touched or bothered. We cried after watching / listening / praying over Clara's cries for 2 hours at a time. I also made a similiar comment to Erica about strength. I said that after she has made it through this event, she will know she can make it through anything.

It was so sad to feel like I could not offer any comfort to that little one. I often rubbed Erica's arm or patted her back b/c it made me feel like I could do something.

I will say that little YouYou is so brave. Even though she had to be sick and tired of people messing with her, often she would hold still so we could adjust her oxygen tube back on her nose. She also opened her mouth for the dr. to look at the bumps. She really tried hard to cooperate whenever she could.

My sister has got to be the best mom in the world. When Erica took a shower, YouYou wanted her mommy. After 10 minutes of unhooking and untangling all the wires, I was able to walk the 3 feet to the bathroom. YouYou was happy to see mommy again. :) Erica rushed through her shower and came out to hold YouYou. She must have stood next to her bed swaying and singing for over an hour. I am so proud of my baby sister for being such a good mommy.

  13. Every time I read your blog I cry. I cry when things are not going so well and I can feel your pain. And I cry when there has been progress and I can share your joy (Yippee for corn chips!) Most often they are tears that fall because I am truly inspired by the love I feel from all of you for that little girl. No matter who is posting the message, good or bad, it is always so full of love. YouYou is a blessing, but she is also truly blessed to have all of you in her life - and once again, I am crying!
    Lots of love,
    Cindy
PS - I can have meals ready whenever you all are ready - just let me know!!!

  14. Oh Erica I just want to "diddo" all these comments. You really are so strong and an inspiration. Bert was telling me about his visit this morning, he told me how he could see how much Aaron loves and supports you. I know that might be like an odd thing to say but it is so awesome that you all have such a strong relationship especially in a situation like you are going through right now.. I am going to come up there tomorrow. Do you think I should bring Sophie? I will if you think it will help You You, but you saw how chatty and busy Sophie is and I dont want her to bother You You so I either way is fine. I will give you call in the morning. Love u!!

  15. Erica, I talked to Elizabeth earlier today. (Thank the Lord I have someone to vent to about the ups and downs about adoption!!). Anyway, she told me she came to visit ya'll, and that you get to go home tomorrow. That is soooo great! We also talked about how BEAUTIFUL You You is. I'm so happy for you and your family. Love, Leanne
