Sunday night post

I'm sitting here with my sister, it's 10:45 pm, and YouYou is finally asleep. I just told my sister..."I don't even know what to say on the blog about a day like today?" It was a very difficult day. There were a few little bright moments, like when YouYou tried to laugh with her brothers this evening, and when she finally ate a few bites of noodles and a few bites of a cereal bar (thank you Tina Marie :) But other than that it was just plain hard. She cried for most of the day, even though we stayed on top of her pain medication. She had it every single time it was allowed. We also had what the nurses call "Magic Mouthwash", which is a combination of Nystatin, Lydocain, and Benadryl, but it does not seem to be helping much at all. I really think if it was not for her mouth pain she would be doing so much better. She can't eat, so she doesn't have energy to move around, and since she is not moving around much she is swelling up like a little piggy. Her little face is so swolen and she has the puffiest lips you have ever seen. She also has a 2 inch spot on her right cheek that is rubbed raw from the oxygen nose tube (it was taped too tightly or something, but the tape has now been removed). So with her puffy eyes, cheeks and mouth...she looks like she lost a big fight.

So the thing I would like prayer for the most is for healing in her little mouth. It is filled with sores, and no one really seems to know what it is. It's so hard to see your child in pain like this. She wants to eat, but she cries out in pain when anything is put in her mouth. We cannot leave until she can eat and drink. It will be at least Tuesday before we can go home, and possibly Wednesday or even later.

I so don't want to be a negative nancy, so please forgive me if I sound that way. I still know my God is good and He is in control.

P.S. Thank you all for your prayers. And if you live in our hometown and can help my sweet hubby out with some home cooked meals I'm sure he would be most appreciative :)

  1. I have Monday night's dinner taken care of. I am going to stay with the boys so don't worry about them. I will be sure to bring Wy so we can have lots of playtime. And I can come to Birmingham to stay with you on Tuesday and/or Wednesday. I don't have any commitments and my schedule is open so just let me know. Even if you want me to just come to help you pack everything up because God is going to provide YouYou with comfort and we are gonna get our girl to eat and drink so you all can come home. I would encourage you to REST and just think about all that God can accomplish and just try to find comfort in knowing He has got this taken care of. We all love you all and wish we could do more.

  7. We so wish that we could have come down this weekend, but most of the family is sick. Know that you are in our prayers.

My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus' blood and righteousness.
I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus name.

    We love you so much,

    Julian, Amy, Erin, and Evanne

  8. thank you for the specific prayer request. Will pray those ugly sores go from her precious mouth and that she will be able to eat very soon free of any pain. Also that she will go home as soon as possible to be in her own home with her beautiful family.

There were many sweet friends from our church retreat this weekend praying for her...we will pray specific healing quickly for her poor little mouth. I pray today things will look brighter even in You You's little hospital room...

  14. "Did you ever know that you're my hero,
and ev'rything I would like to be?
I can fly higher than an eagle,
'cause you are the wind beneath my wings.

It might have appeared to go unnoticed,
but I've got it all here in my heart.
I want you to know I know the truth, of course I know it,
I would be nothing with out you."

I am still there with you my "beaches"!!! I miss you, You You and that wonderful recliner at the hospital a lot worse than I thought I would! Thank you so much for allowing me the privilege to meet You You and help take care of her. She is an amazing, brave and strong little girl....just like her forever mommy. Breathe deep and take each moment, each second as they come and pass. You are far more strong than you want to admit right now. I love you!

"Thank you, thank you, thank God for you,
    the wind beneath my wings."

BTW--can you give that purple elephant a little hug for me!

  17. We are praying for YOUYOU.... my daughter had surgery in Sept. and she developed the mouth sores(ulcers) too. This was the most painful thing for her. I spoke with the doctor and sometimes, it is a result of the anesthesia. I did some research and yes, it is. Since I am a nurse I just had to know the reason.
    YouYou is just beautiful.

  18. Erica, Just catching up on how YouYou is doing after a busy day yesterday. Yesterday all day I kept praying for YouYou, but for some reason you were on my mind too. So I was sending up extra prayers for you as well. Now I know why. Our Papa is so good! So many people are praying for YouYou, you and your family, far more than you can imagine. Hang in there! Your are an incredible mom, and I know that you are doing a great job caring for YouYou under very difficult circumstances.
    With love,
    Kim

  20. Erica,
I just got an email from your mom with the URL for your blog. Just know that we have been and still are praying for all of you. I know how hard it is to see your little one so sick. But I also know that our Father never leaves or forsakes and will see you through. Our prayer is for YouYou's healing and for strength and comfort for you, Aaron and your boys.

    We love you,
    Aunt Melba
